Well, that is it - the summer holidays are over and believe it or not… September is here! We have a lot going on in the club this month, so please keep reading on to really get the most out of your club membership this month.

York 10K

You may have seen some of the team taking part in the York 10k a couple of weeks ago – we entered ourselves into the ‘Corporate Challenge’ and came in 3rd place out of all the corporate groups, with an average time of 45 minutes and 44 seconds! Huge shout out to Fergus from the gym team, who had the team’s fastest time of 43 minutes and 55 seconds. A great day was had by all.

York-10K

Thinking of starting to run yourself? We recommend using the couch to 5k app to start your running fitness journey! Or increase your cardiovascular fitness by using the Sprint8 app on the treadmills! It could be you running in the 10k event next year!!

Spa pool update

Unfortunately, during routine checks and maintenance, we have discovered a structural issue with our Spa pool. We have therefore taken it out of action for your safety until our contractor has reviewed the facility and undertaken the work required to bring it back into action. We have now received the quote for the works, and we have commissioned this to go ahead – this is booked in for Monday 5th September. Thank you for your patience during this time.

Lockers

You may have noticed that a lot of locker keys are missing in the changing areas now – they do disappear over time and unfortunately the company that provides the keys is no longer operating. We are currently exploring options with regards to the best way forward, this is very much a work in progress! In the meantime, there are still plenty of lockers available for use!

SwimFit is BACK on Fridays with a new time!

Join Rach D every Friday starting 9th September 2.15-2.45pm for SwimFit – this is a 30-minute session in the pool where Rach will be available for any swim advice and coaching. This support is INCLUDED in your membership! Rach has been teaching swimming lessons here at Roko for many years and will look forward to speak to you about swimming at the club very soon! Our ever-popular adult front crawl group course is commencing a NEW term starting from Thursday 15th September. Have you ever wanted to learn front crawl? Or do you simply want to improve your front crawl to help further develop your fitness? Maybe you are training for a triathlon!?

Join Lauren and our lovely group of swimmers on Thursday evenings:

- Beginners 7-7.45pm

- Improvers 7.45-8.30pm

The price for 6 x 45 minute course is:

£60 for members & £75 for non-members

Children's News

You said, we did… NEW toys, books, and activities in the club’s soft play area!

We have some new toys, reading books and activities in the soft play area in the club lounge! All we ask is you supervise your children when they are using this area to help keep it clean and tidy for other children. Please also do not allow your children to take food and drink into this area. Thank you for your cooperation.

Acupuncture and Nutritional Therapy

Nicola Rawstron Msc, Bsc, Dipac, Level 4 Nutrition

Nicola has been a practicing acupuncturist for over 15 years and has a Level 4 Diploma in Nutrition. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council, registered with The Professional Standards Authority and a member of the Royal Society for Public Health.

Acupuncture is widely used for musculoskeletal problems and pain relief. However, it can also be helpful for a range of complaints ranging from digestive and gynaecological issues to insomnia, migraines, and stress related issues.

Nicola enjoys working with complex or longstanding cases and her background as a Biomedical Scientist means she has a unique insight into the pathology of illnesses. Acupuncture needles are incredibly fine. Most people feel calm and relaxed during treatment, and often fall asleep. If you are unsure about needles, then you are welcome to try a single needle during an initial brief consultation to see how it feels. Other techniques can be used such as acupressure, cupping or heat therapy.
