I am incredibly excited to bring you this bumper of a January newsletter! We have loads of exciting announcements below, so please ensure to read on to really get the most out of your membership this January!
Firstly, I am happy to announce that the work on the main pool is now complete and all poolside facilities will re-open as normal on Bank Holiday Monday (3rd January 2022!). To celebrate the re-opening of these facilities and to thank you all for your patience, we will be operating our usual opening hours of 6am – 10pm rather than our usual reduced Bank Holiday hours. This gives you the perfect opportunity to make a start on any New Year’s resolutions or new fitness goals!
There are now more ways than ever before to make a start on a new fitness goal or try something new this January. We have listened to member feedback and have launched a brand new group exercise timetable with MORE evening classes and MORE of the classes that you love. We’ve even thrown in a few new classes such as Les Mills BodyAttack and we will be throwing a ‘proper’ Les Mills launch party in the next few weeks!
If swimming is more your thing, why not book onto our front crawl course to either improve your technique or learn a complete new stroke?! Or book in for a swimfit. session for some general swim advice from one of our swim instructors – this support is BACK and is included in your membership!
Once again, the team are here to help – so please don’t hesitate to ask if there’s anything we can do to assist you.

What is swimfit.?
30 minutes in the pool with a swim specialist. Our swimming specialist will guide you through pool based activities available within the Club. swimfit. is also a supervised pool based session where you can get in the water, try out a session and pick up hints and tips on technique to ensure you fully enjoy your swim sessions .
Member exclusive – Health testing with Community Wellness available at the club on Monday 7th February 2022!
A 30 minute consultation which will highlight any common health concerns from weight management to stress, to poor sleep patterns and posture.
Including:
Lung function
Body Mass Index (BMI)
Body fat percentage
Hydration levels
Urine analysis
Blood glucose test (diabetes)
Cholesterol test (and a breakdown)
Blood pressure
Heart trace scan

INTRODUCING NEW PERSONAL TRAINER – Matthew Winnell
Matthew has been in the fitness industry since 2012, and has since trained complete beginners to international athletes helping them to achieve their goals.
Matthew has a Degree in Sports Science and Injury Management and therefore excels in helping people overcome injuries and helping the recovery process. Matt also has an excellent track record as a PT with clients losing weight for big occasions as well as improving performance for a specific sport.
As a former National level swimmer Matthew knows what it takes to achieve your goals and how great it feels when you do.

Adult Swimming Lessons are back – spaces filling fast!
Have you ever wanted to learn front crawl but not known where to begin? Can you swim a strong breaststroke but would like to learn a new stroke? Can you swim front crawl but would like to advance your techniques for a triathlon? Is your NEW YEAR'S resolution to learn something new in 2022?? Well this adult's front crawl course will help with all the above!
The course will run for 6 consecutive Thursdays from:
Thursday 13th January – Thursday 17th February 2022 With Lauren Coombs
7-7:45pm “Learn” Front Crawl
7:45-8:30pm Improve Front Crawl
[Please note you can only book on to the “Improve Front Crawl” class if you can already do front crawl breathing techniques. You must also be able to swim to enrol on to the beginner’s course.]
The course price for 6 x 45 minute sessions is:
£60 for Roko members & £75 for non-members

FTP is back
Power takes in to account how hard you are pedalling as well as how fast you are going and is a great way of keeping yourself accountable on the bike! The FTP test will push you for 20mins to see how hard you can go and maintain! FTP testing will help you monitor improvements in both power and fitness in the gym and will also help you target your training better in RokoRide classes!
Book in for half an hour with Hannah on Tuesday 4th January at 5pm!

We are very excited to welcome back our “swim school” swimmers after a long break for the pool re-tiling.
We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and we wish you all the very best for 2022 and what the year brings for you.
As swimming lesson are now paid for via direct debit, there is no longer an enrolment period with deadline dates for parent to stick to and stress about. The children on the swim subscription will now move up the swim programme as and when they are ready and they will gain certificates as they pass the criteria for each stage. This is a stress free way of keeping your children in regular lessons and keeping the continuity going.
If you need to swap your child’s swimming lesson for whatever reason, please add your child to the swap list but bear in mind, the swap process could take a few weeks to coordinate if the programme is fully booked. Where possible please try to give a much notice for swaps as you can.
If your child is moving up to the next group we will give you as much notice as possible to enable you to make the necessary arrangements for the next lesson time and day.
If you are on the waiting list for swimming lessons, please keep your phones handy during the last 2 weeks of January where the team in York will start the enrolment calls for available places!
February Half Term Swim Courses!
Please keep an eye out in the club, for our February half term intensive swim courses! The half term courses will run from Monday 21st February – Friday 25th February. We will be offering group intensive lessons as well as 1-1 lessons. These will be held in the mornings of half term so you can still enjoy your days with children being off school. If you would like to receive information about the courses before we advertise in the club, please email jarcher@york.roko.co.uk for more information.
Water Fun is BACK from Saturday 8th January!
And each Saturday & Sunday 3-4pm. Enjoy some family splash time with floats in the pool.
Please be reminded:
- Children’s swim times are between 9am – 7pm each day.
- We encourage families to use the dedicated Family Changing Room provided.
- Children under the age of 13 years old must be supervised at all times.
- Inflatables are NOT permitted in the main pool unless in the ‘Water Fun’ sessions
- Ball games are not permitted
